Below follow some frequently asked questions and answers we are asked on a regular basis concerning the installation of central heating systems and the maintenance of the central heating. If you have a question that is not answered or require further information regarding your central heating boiler or system, please do not hesitate to contact us.

WHAT IS A BOILER SERVICE?

It can vary quite a lot depending on how straight forward the boiler installation is; the make and kilowatt rating of the boiler also affects the cost. Gas Regulations and Building Regulations are being updated all the time. When a new boiler is fitted it has to be done to current standards. We provide free of charge boiler quotations in which we will detail any alterations that need to be made to bring the system to current regulations.

HOW LONG WILL MAY BOILER BE GUARANTEED FOR?

We offer 7 - 10 years parts and labour manufacturers insurance backed guarantees on all VAILLANT and BAXI boilers FREE of charge, providing the boiler is serviced for the entirety of the guarantee.

ARE YOUR GAS ENGINEERS GAS SAFE REGISTERED?

Yes, we are gas safe registered. It is very important that anyone working on a gas appliance is fully registered.

WHY ARE MY RADIATORS WARM AT THE TOP BUT COLD AT THE BOTTOM?

This is likely to be caused by a build up of sludge in the system, a powerflush will restore the system; please visit POWERFLUSH section for more information.

WHY ARE MY RADIATORS COLD AT THE TOP AND WARM AT THE BOTTOM?

This is likely to be caused by air being trapped at the top of the radiator, try bleeding the radiator. If the problem keeps coming back there may be a design fault within the central heating system which is drawing air in. If so the problem needs to be addressed as air in central heating systems causes corrosion.

WHY ARE SOME RADIATORS HOTTER THAN OTHERS?

This could just mean your system has not been balanced. If so this is a straight forward job to put right. But it can also be a sign that the system is getting sludged up and may need further investigation.

WHAT IS A BOILER SERVICE?

A boiler service includes a inspection, safety checks, flue gas analysis and any component cleaning as detailed in the boiler manufacturers maintenance instructions

WHAT IS A THERMOSTATIC RADIATOR VALVE (TRV)?

A Thermostatic Radiator Valve allows you to control the temperature in individual rooms around your home. It can also help you reduce your fuel bills by automatically adjusting the radiator temperature once your room has reached its desired level.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DO NOT USE A GAS SAFE REGISTERED COMPANY?

1) In 2007 the government brought in the home buyers pack to put all the responsibility on the seller of the house to provide certificates - ensuring gas and electric services all comply with current regulations and standards.
2) All boiler manufacturers will not provide warranty if the home owner does not have their letter of compliance from Gas safe
3) The installation may also be unsafe.

WHAT ARE SMART HEATING CONTROLS?

Smart heating controls or smart thermostats enable a heating system to be controlled remotely via a smart phone, tablet or PC. This enables a more convenient and efficient control of the heating system.
